Rest: The Forgotten Reset Button

Have you ever not realized how stressed you were until you finally stepped away?

That was me this summer.

I made a move I’d dreamed about for years, packing up my home of 21 years and relocating to a new one.

It was my idea, my dream and still, it was a lot.

I was calm while packing up and excited to be finally moving.

And then, when all of my belongings were moved to a new home in new town, the boxes, the chaos, along with my own unrealistic expectations about how quickly I could unpack caught up with me.

It wasn't long before I realized how much my surroundings impact me. I'm not going to lie, I need order and organization. But, as I tried to work and live amidst the chaos of unpacked boxes, I had none of that. That's when the overwhelm set in.

It wasn’t until a long weekend away at Tims Ford Lake in Tennessee (which I thought about cancelling because I had too much to do), that I realized just how much stress I was carrying. And how crucial rest is to wellbeing.

Being away, spending leisurely time with friends, floating on the lake, relaxing, and laughing reminded me how necessary rest is for renewal.

Whether it’s excitement or stress, both keep the nervous system in overdrive.

It’s only when we pause that our bodies and minds can reset.
When we give ourselves permission to rest, we return lighter, clearer, and more capable of handling what’s ahead.

Even the changes we want most take more energy than we realize.

Rest gives us the reset we need to move forward with clarity and strength.
