Something Stronger, Something Better

It’s winter in New Hampshire but the geranium on my windowsill doesn’t care.

I’ve been watching it closely over the past week, in awe, as a cluster of small buds appeared, and then one bloomed.   I’ve been admiring the beauty of its delicate red petals against the backdrop of winter outside the window. I’m intrigued by its determination and perseverance, and its complete lack of concern about external circumstances and influences.

It reminded me of this quote by Albert Camus:

“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.  And that makes me happy.  For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger— something better, pushing right back.”

How often do we let the pressures of the world influence what we do or don’t dowithout pushing back?

Sometimes external influences can be helpful, like when we need inspiration to begin something new or do things we’ve never done before. But more often than not, it’s external pressures that keep us from growing and changing, from doing the things we want to do, and from being our authentic selves.

It’s time to being pushing back.

There’s something stronger, something better.

Is there something that you want to bring to life but are being held back by external circumstances or influences?
